300… 300… 300.

March 19, 2007 at 1:18 pm (Cooking, First-Aid, Fishing, Horde, Lv 30-40, Server: Dunemaul, Skinning, Tailoring, Warlock Adventures)

After hitting level 35, I went profession crazy and unlocked all my professions to 300. Skinning and Tailoring were fairly easy as I just went to the trainer. The other three weren’t as easy, though not much harder either.

Skinning
I just went to the Skinning Trainer and there he could increase my Skinning. Simple. Too bad I won’t be able to seriously level skinning until we do more Instances.

Tailoring
The Master Tailor is located in Tarren Mill. Just flew over there and trained. Then I spent approximately 225-240g on supplies and new recipes and leveled my Tailoring to 300. The only annoying part was to travel to Everlook and get the Runecloth Bag recipe. I died a lot.

First-Aid
I flew to Hammerfall in Arathi Highlands. There I found the Trauma Surgeon in the southern building of Hammerfall and did the quest Triage! It was fairly easy, even if I did lose four of my patients in the first minute or two because I was trying to remember how to do the quest. Essentially you bust out with your Triage bandages on the wounded patients as they come in. The weaker or more badly hurt ones will die sooner. You’re suppose to successfully bandage 15 people before you lose 6 of them. I managed to complete it the first try. Woot! I then went to the AH and bought cloth up the wazoo. Made some bandages, went back to the Trauma Surgeon to train and eventually hit 300. I suppose I could buy the book to level First Aid some more, but it seems pointless at this point. Maybe when I’m 60 I’ll do it.

Cooking
This was a quest, To Gadgetzan you Go! On the way there, a Mage was sitting by the flight guy as I arrived. Before I could get to town, I was dead. I soulstoned and went inside. He came up to me, laughed, and then Pyroblasted my ass to the next century. At least the guards got him that time. Bastard Alliance. How harmful could a naked Blood Elf be?

Apparently I had to get certain materials and then return it to the quest dude. Unfortunately all the materials drop from level 40-45ish mobs. I wasn’t about to go farming on high level mobs. Besides that would give me too much xp. So I stewed there for a couple of days. Then I read something online that you can buy all the crap from the AH and the cheese from the Innkeeper in Thousand Needles. Sweet. This inspired me to complete my Cooking and Fishing quests. For a cost of about 7g, I completed my Cooking quest.

Fishing
This was a much more annoying quest, Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme. This one, I had to fish in four hostile territories. A level 45 quest for a level 35 seemed a bit… risk~kay. So I undressed to my skinnies and rode the giant winged flyer. It was actually not that bad to do, though this was the worst quest to do.

The four areas I had to go to were Feralas, Desolace, Stranglethorn Vale, and the Swamp of Sorrows. Luckily, I had all the flight paths already. I flew down to Feralas first, head west along the road to the river, and started to fish. There were no mobs on the way and you just took a small chance that an Alliance guy came by to kill you on their way to Dune Maul or Feathermoon. I had to buy some fishing bait because well, I might as well catch other high level fish while I look for these rare ones. It turned out that they weren’t so rare at all and this one came to me easily.

Desolace was pretty good too. I went to Shadowprey Village, ran along the coast down south until I hit the new area, Sar’theris. Then I did some more fishing there. No real mobs to worry about.

At Grom’gol I saw a 39 Alliance Shaman go at it with a 39 Warlock. It looked fairly grim as the warlock only had his imp out. For some reason the warlock started to beat on the shaman with his staff and I knew he was in trouble. I ran out there and casted fear on the shaman a couple of times. I also dotted him up. After he finished with the warlock he came after me. It was at this point I realized that I had no armor, no weapons, no pet, and he beats me by four levels. Swell. I just stood there attempting to cast Fear and dot him. He then killed me… /sigh. Then the next second he fell over dead… /woot. Unfortunately it was a long ass run from the top of the zone back to my dead body, but that’s where I wanted to fish anyway. I went slightly north along the coast, avoiding mobs, to fish in the Savage Coast.

I then flew to Stonard. This would make my day. You can actually get to the coast aggroing only a couple of mobs. I had to use my Voidwalker and Soulstone, but I still made it there. I tried fishing on the coast, but the Murlocs kept aggroing and killing me. Then I saw an island not too far in the south east corner of the map. I double-checked with Thottbot and started to fish there instead. It took about 1/2 an hour before I got my fish. Stupid rotten fish wouldn’t appear.

——————————————-
I completed all my quests and now can level all of my professions to 300. Unfortunately I also earned a lot of experience through these quests (about 4k a pop), discovering new areas, and killing some mobs on the way. This puts me about 7 bubbles to level which I believe is much less than Sindral needs. Oh well… at least I have something else to do before I do the mass Deviate fishing.

Update on teh fishing…

March 5, 2007 at 8:47 am (Battlegrounds, Fishing, Horde, Lv 20-30, Server: Dunemaul, Warlock Adventures)

Monday, March 5, 2007

Well, a little over one week and I currently have over 400g. Wow that’s fast. I have a couple of additional observations to make. On Friday and Saturday, you can sell a lot of fish. Really. People will start to check the AH more for the weekend and will start playing the game more. I suppose that’s the best time to cook the fish. On Saturday, I did three rounds of fishing for a total of at least 220 fish. So, I sold about 11 stacks of fish for about 8g each. I should have upped the price a little bit. Maybe I could have sold them all for 10g each. Oh well.

I also did plenty of battlegrounds. I have 1635 honor, received my Warsong Gulch trinket (Lv 20), and received my Arathi Basin boots (Lv 28). Catch me if you can! I thought about getting the Arathi Basin trinket, but it didn’t appeal to me. I mean, it’s only a weak personal bubble. During my static party, if we’re screwed, I don’t see how a bubble could save me. I mean, by the time the mob starts attacking me, it’s usually just me and Kathane left alive. It’s not that great of a trinket. Plus, we’d have to wait for everyone else to run back to the instance (or Keceltes to soulstone if he hasn’t wasted it already).

I’m not sure what I’m saving the money for. I’m a Warlock… I don’t really need money for a mount. It’s not like the flying mounts are any good. I guess it does counter the fact that the Grimoires for my pets are the equivalent cost of a mount. But still, I have plenty of extra gold to go around. Hell, I could even buy mounts for the rest of my static party (not that I will, so don’t get any ideas guys). Oh well. Maybe something spectacular will catch my eye and I’ll be the envy of all Warlocks when I own it. Or… maybe not.

Oh yah, apparently Blizzard released a thing called the Armory earlier this weekend. Go and check it out. Basically you can look at any character’s equipped equipment, main profession skills, and even talent spec. Some claim it’s an invasion of privacy. I say, who the fook cares? I secretly think it’s for our security, like how the new airport x-ray machines can look at our nekkid bodies.

Here are the direct links to my static party’s profiles on the Armory:

Kathanir – Rogue
Keceltes – Priest
Sindral – Paladin
Skarra – Mage
Tanthion – Warlock

I do not recommend opening the links all at one time. Apparently the beta version has a lot of load time with the javascript, xml, and server latency. Also these profiles aren’t updated immediately. Sindral turned level 30 sometime last night, but at this moment (9:20 am pst) it still says he’s level 27.

Oh yah, here’s the profile of one of our beloved FFXI friends:

Norejai – Hunter

It’s all about the fish… baby!

February 23, 2007 at 3:15 pm (Fishing, Horde, Server: Dunemaul, The Elven Life, Warlock Adventures)

For the past week or so I’ve been fishing Deviate Fish a lot. Like, I can sit there for hours and get a stack of 60-80 with no problems. The trick is that I turn down the music on my computer, turn up the sound, and watch TV while listening for the splash of water when a fish is snagged on my line. TV is the best distraction in the world. I grew up on TV, sat in front of it for hours, and even take important life lessons from it (like when Punky Brewster’s friend locked herself in the refrigerator about to suffocate herself, I learned that was a bad place to hide in a junkyard). I think TV gave me ADHD and seriously fooked up my life. I am one screwed up kid.

Anyway, I fish a lot. It’s a good source of income. What’s even better is when you pair it up with the Cooking Recipe: Savory Deviate Delight. With this recipe, you allow the fish to be a great PVP item for everyone on the server. Great advantage for the Horde. Thus more people will purchase this more than the Alchemy, Cooking, and stupid folk that use the raw fish. I’ve been putting it on the AH and check it every couple of hours to make sure that my delights are the lowest costing ones. I use two copper per cooking ingredient per fish, plus the AH listing cost of 60c per stack for 24 hrs. This brings the total cost to 5c per savory delight.

I can sell each stack of delight for anything between 5.50g to 9g so far. The average selling price is more around 6g to 7g. I also offer a smaller, but more costly stack of delight for those people that don’t want too much. A stack of 5 savory delights I sell for 2g to 4g. I usually list the full stack for 8hrs (so I can update the price for a fast paced market) and the smaller stacks for 24hrs (since most people don’t think this sells too quickly, which they don’t, but good enough to make some moola).

At level 27, I currently have over 130g. Woot! I can’t even ride a mount yet. =( Well I’m sure one day I’ll have a use for this money, like paying girls to dance for me or just throwing it on my bed to roll around in.

Alright I’m done. No more crafting till level 35 for Tanthion. I’ve maxed out the following professions until I can break the barrier at level 35:

Cooking
First Aid
Fishing
Tailoring

With 12g to spare. Yes… this is what I do when I don’t level. Now what to do with all the Deviate fish (117)… Aaarrr…

Fishing! The other profession you can do while waiting for people to come back from Taiwan.

February 13, 2007 at 9:18 am (Fishing, Horde, The Elven Life)

That’s right, now I fish. I heard that it was wise to keep your Cooking skill up and what better way to do it than by performing another profession that may or may not help you with your Cooking prowess. It’s actually very simple, though time consuming. You just equip your fishing rod, drag the fishing icon in your spell book to your action bar, click on it, then right-click on the bobbing thing when it makes a splash 1-30 seconds later. Fun stuff right?

I personally like to snag some fishing lures or other items that increase your fishing skill in the form of a weapon enhancement. It increases the chance that when you right-click on the bobbing thing that you get to keep your fish. You also need to catch fish to have your skill increase because God doesn’t reward losers.

For the Horde, here’s where I fished:
1-80 Ogrimmar
81-160 The Barrens (by the Wailing Caverns)

In the Barrens, I noticed that if you fish by the little groups of fish in the lake, you can catch Deviate Fish. Deviate Fish are used in Alchemy and Cooking. In particular, for Cooking, they are the main ingredient for Savory Deviate Delight. This treat has the ability to turn your character into a Pirate or Ninja for 1 hour. An added bonus is that you are now immune to Polymorph effects. Woot! I can see waves and waves of Ninjas/Pirates in battlegrounds now. Unfortunately for the Alliance, this is the only source for both the Deviate Fish and the recipe (drops off mobs in the Barrens – 0.1% chance). Oh well… suckers.

Being such an important fish, a whole stack of fish may sell for 5-6g on the AH and it may sell for up to 50g on the neutral AH. I doubt that many Alliance characters would buy them though since it is so hard to get the recipe.
